Russian: 11 May [O.S. 29 April] 1811 - 30 January [O.S. 18 January] 1893) was a Russian painter, Major General and administrator. Grigory Gagarin was born in Saint Petersburg to the noble Rurikid princely Gagarin family. His father, Prince Grigory Ivanovich Gagarin (Saint Petersburg, 17 March 1782 - Tegernsee, 12 February 1837), was a Russian diplomat in France and later the ambassador to Italy. His father married in Saint Petersburg in 1809 his mother Yekaterina Petrovna Sojmonova (Saint Petersburg, 23 May 1790 - Moscow, 27 February 1873). Thus until the age 13 the boy was with his family in Paris and Rome and then studied in the collegium Tolomei in Siena. Grigory did not receive a formal artistic education, but took private lessons from the famous Russian painter Karl Briullov who at that time lived in Italy. Albert Gottschalk
(3 July 1866 - 13 February 1906) was a Danish painter. He had a close connection, personally and artisticly, to the poets Johannes Jørgensen, Viggo Stuckenberg and Sophus Claussen. Albert Gottschalk was born in Stege on the island of Møn. but later moved to Copenhagen. He was educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1882 to 1883 and under Peder Severin Krøyer at the Artists Studio Schools from hos from 1883 to 1888. He also studied privately with Karl Jensen and Karl Madsen. Gottschalk was inspired by the Danish painter P.S. Krøyer as well as French art. Gottschalk was ambitious, technically skilled, and he worked a long time with his motifs in his mind before painting them. He searched for his motifs in Denmark on his bicycle, and he found them often around Copenhagen. The paintings often look like they are quickly made sketches which was not recognised in Gottschalkes time. But today people find his works fresher and more timeless than art from that time normally is.

Olivier, Woldemar Friedrich
German, 1791-1859 .Painter and draughtsman, brother of Heinrich Olivier and Ferdinand Olivier. He first studied in Dessau under the court sculptor Friedemann Hunold (1773-1840), a pupil of Johann Gottfried Schadow, before teaching himself to paint. Following the return of his brothers from Paris, he toured the Harz with Ferdinand in 1810 and in 1811 moved with him, via Dresden, to Vienna. There he drew nudes and antiquities at the Akademie der Bildenden Kenste. In 1813-14 he participated in the uprising against Napoleonic occupation in the Letzow volunteer corps, along with his friends from Vienna, Theodor Kerner, Joseph von Eichendorff and Philipp Veit. After Kerner fell at Gadebusch (26 August 1813), Friedrich sketched him on his deathbed (Dessau, Anhalt Gemeldegal.).
